Huawei has just announced this week it’s upcoming Mate40 Smartphone series that will include an implemented hardware wallet for the central-bank cryptocurrency from China known as the digital yuan.
This will be the first smartphone of its kind that would feature a wallet of such a kind. On Weibo, a Chinese blogging website, the company announced the news earlier today.
You can see the post here.
Notably, the post highlights that users will be able to control and protect their privacy and perform dual off-line transactions simultaneously.
Roughly translated, part of the post says:
“#HuaweiMate40# series is the first smartphone that supports digital RMB hardware wallet, hardware-level security, controllable anonymity protection, dual offline transactions, bringing a new safe and convenient payment experience.”
The digital yuan CBDC from China is currently in its testing pilot stages but is getting ready for release to the country as soon as possible, potentially before the end of this year. Numerous countries all over the world are looking into their own central-bank digital currencies to develop but China seems to be ahead of the pack as it has allegedly been working on such a project since 2013.
