    • [SBP Proposal] Snap Secure - Jan 20, 2019 - Tokens... for everyone

      Hi everyone! We're back 😎
This time we're here to announce the launch of our Vite faucet to the public.

      given2x.jpg

This faucet will allow anyone and everyone to be able to grab some Vite, free of cost with no catch... no ads.
It will help to further increase adoption and awareness of the Vite platform/ecosystem.

      Let us state some things.

      • The faucet link is https://snapsecure.network/faucet (we may switch over to a whole domain name in the near future).
      • Snap Secure and its faucet will be forever free of any popups, ads or malware.
      • We do not have a daily limit (site wide) of coins.
      • We do however have a daily limit on withdrawals per 24 hour period and any person will be unable to make anymore than 1 withdrawal per 24 hours.
      • We don't allow VPN/proxy/non-residential users.
      • We've tried to keep the faucet as simple as we can. (Simple = easy).
      • We are SSL Secured.
      • Withdrawal requests will be broadcasted instantly (yes users will be amazed by Vite's network speed).
      • Unlike other faucets out there, 100% of donations received will go back towards the faucet.
      • Built completely from the ground up and we will still keep working on the faucet even after launch.
      • We will be adding in more information in the coming weeks about Vite and so new users can learn how Vite works.

So what are you waiting for!? Go ahead and grab yourself some Vite tokens. Remember to share the link with your friends and family so they can grab some as well.

P.S If you've used the faucet, let us know how it went. Smooth? Complicated? Errors? Shared with friends? πŸ˜ƒ

    • Snap Secure is Developing a Coin Faucet!

We've been working away the last few days and now we want to share what we've been up to with the Vite community.

We've developed and just completed the core functions of our upcoming coin faucet.

You can test it out for yourself by visiting:

      https://snapsecure.network/faucet

      faucet.jpg

Simply enter in your Vite wallet address and you should receive a token (you should see it in "Unreceived Transactions" if you're using the testnet block explorer to view).

We're using Vite Testnet Tokens (VTT) for now so don't expect any free Vite tokens out of this test faucet πŸ˜‚

This is just the base code (so excuse the ugly appearance) and we will build upon this to create something cool.

We will announce in the future when we will release our (completed) coin faucet.

By then, you'll be able to tell your friends, parents and co-workers about it so they can grab some tokens (actual Vite tokens) for themselves 😁

    • Beginner's guide to installing and operating a Vite SBP (on Linux).

If you're interested in becoming a Vite SBP but don't know the steps, I've recently written up a tutorial on how you can do this. Very easy to follow and learn from.

      Check it out at: https://snapsecure.network/beginners-guide-to-installing-and-operating-a-vite-sbp

If you require any help in setting up a SBP, you can always ask questions here, in the Snap Secure website or over at the Official Vite Discord Server.

    • [SBP Proposal] Snap Secure - β€ŠDec 24, 2018 - Past, Present and Future

Hi everyone! Just want to introduce myself.
I'm plasmo πŸ‘Ί from Snap Secure (the first ever SBP from the community) and we're based down under in Australia.

      twitter1.jpg

Our name Snap Secure is actually derived from Snapshot chain, the base chain helping to secure Vite's DAG.

Today we just want to let everyone know what we're really all about.

      WHAT WE'VE DONE

We've designed and created a website made from the ground up to help promote Vite. We currently have heaps of unique users visiting daily.

      • Website: snapsecure.network

A Twitter to keep our followers up to date on Snap Secure articles/guides/competitions or anything we're doing.

      • Twitter: twitter.com/snap_secure

We would like to see more people use Vite but there are some things that we think are just too complicated for many.
That is the reason we've written up articles/tutorials on how to do advanced stuff such as: running a SBP node or a full node.

      • SBP Guide: https://snapsecure.network/beginners-guide-to-installing-and-operating-a-vite-sbp
      • Full Node Guide: https://snapsecure.network/run-a-full-node-today-and-earn-vite-rewards-daily

Plenty of users/SBPs have actually came to us to ask for further assistance/help in setting up their full node or SBP node (after reading our guide) and we're always happy to help out. Feel free to contact us any time.

We've also created the first ever community competition to help promote usage of the official Vite forums.

      • Competition 1: https://snapsecure.network/full-node-reward-guessing-competition

We've also helped the Vite dev team out via:

      • Github by writing official installation steps for Windows
      • Spotting mistakes/bugs (missing steps on the official Medium Vite ERC20 conversion guide, incorrect Windows IPC command on the Vite Wiki, incorrect DashboardTargetURL on Gvite 1.0.4, incorrect RewardAddr on Gvite 1.0.4 etc)

      Made suggestions:

      • Improvements to Gvite such as NTP time check/stats (which got implemented on version 1.0.3)
      • Gvite exit upon config error (recently implemented)
      • Return account block hash for CreateTxWithPassphrase (recently implemented)

We are active on Telegram/Discord and do like to provide knowledge/assistance in anything Vite related (either in the public channels or via private/direct message).

      WHAT WE'RE CURRENTLY WORKING ON

Right now we're developing a public Vite coin faucet via PHP/JSON-RPC (to help further increase users/adoption). If successful, we will market this to attract more new users to Vite.

You may test it out at: https://snapsecure.network/faucet

and you can read more about it at: https://forum.vite.net/topic/133/snap-secure-is-developing-a-coin-faucet

We're also brain storming fun competitions/ideas on how to get users involved more with Vite.

WHAT WE'RE DOING IN THE FUTURE

Snap Secure was born from Vite and we do believe in Vite long term. We're here to stay and help promote Vite adoption/usage and growth.

We plan to write more guides in the future such as how to use the Vite DEX, Vite cross chains or anything we think can help users further understand Vite.

We plan to do more competitions to help promote Vite and get the community more involved.

Our long term goal is to launch a casino on the Vite platform utilising Solidity++.

    • RE: New user here, don't understand concept of staking or PoW to allow voting.

      Think of it this way.

In Ethereum, you need to pay a fee for any transaction you perform.

      • Alice pays more than Bob so Alice's transaction has higher priority over Bob's.
      • Alice doesn't know how much fees to pay so most of the time will overpay or underpay.
      • Carlos has to spend anywhere from $0.05 to $0.50 to perform a transaction.
      • Alice is constantly frustrated that a transaction she performed has ran out of gas.

In Vite, there are no fees for any transactions you perform (but however are they quota requirements).

      • Alice performs a transaction and they are instantly confirmed.
      • Alice always knows how much quota a transaction requires as they are static and known
        https://vite.wiki/tutorial/rule/quota.html#quota-usage-rules.
      • Carlos never needs to pay any fees for sending a transaction as Carlos simply performs a PoW
      • Bob is a frequent trader and has staked some tokens (in-order to generate quotas) and is able to perform transactions much more frequently compared to someone who performs PoW.

Vite has a quota based resource allocation protocol and also does not have any transaction priority (as transactions are almost instantly confirmed as they are sent).

There are currently two ways to obtain quota:

      • Perform PoW (this is done inside the wallet application) to perform a one time transaction.
You can only do PoW on basic transactions. For most users, performing PoW is more than enough for them (voting, sending etc). For more advanced transactions (such as registering a SBP node or issuing new tokens), they will be required to stake some tokens in-order to be able to perform them.

      • Stake Vite tokens to generate quota (your quota will never run out as they will regenerate). The generation rate depends on how much you stake... higher amount of staked tokens equals a higher quota generating rate.
This is great for users like myself who will perform transactions frequently (such as operating a coin faucet). If I want to be able to perform even more transactions at a faster rate, I can just simply stake more tokens to increase my quota generation rate.

    • Full Node Reward Guessing Competition (has now ended)

Competition has now ended. Thanks guys.
Cycle 37 full node reward payout was for 94.4209252
and KenNinja guessed 93.134 so he/she wins for being the closest!

      ###########################################################################################

Today we will be running a competition to celebrate the launch of the new Vite Full Node Incentive Program.
The program helps incentivise/encourage users to run a Vite full node that will help the Vite network grow stronger.

If you're interested in running a Vite full node but don't know how, we've published a guide yesterday on how you can do that. Simply follow the steps written there and your full node will be up and running in no time.

So back to the competition. The game is simple really. You just have to...

      GUESS THE CORRECT AMOUNT!

      alt text

You have to make an introduction for yourself. How you found out about Vite or how long you've been into Vite. And then make one guess as to what amount will be for the upcoming full node reward payout (reward cycle 37).
Whoever is correct or closest will WIN 2000 VITE.

      Competition ends 15th December, 2018 @ 11:13:14 China Standard Time (UTC+08:00).

Winner will be announced and contacted directly here via the Vite forum (to ask for wallet details).

Here are some research material to help you make a better guess:

      • The first full node reward amount (cycle 36) was 118.468848975279009241 VITE
      • https://stats.vite.net/api/getAlivePeers
      • https://test.vite.net/account/vite_86f729c9b7dda636e46b7ae738785be87f71390f532828ace9
      • https://medium.com/vitelabs/full-node-incentive-program-will-be-kicked-off-on-december-13th-baa7fa1aa8c8
      • https://forum.vite.net/full-node

How to Enter the Contest? Simply post your entry here in this thread.

      Example entry format:

Hi I'm Cheeky from Australia. I've been a holder of Vite since September and found out about it via ICO Drops.
I guess that the full node reward payout for cycle 37 will be: 100.1166663 VITE

      Good luck to everyone.

      The Rules:

      • Closest guess wins.
      • Duplicate guesses will be forfeited.
      • You must post your guess in this thread.
      • Only one guess per person.
      • Your Vite forum account must have an uploaded avatar picture by end of competition or entry will be deemed invalid.
      • Competition begins 15th Dec, 2018 @ 06:13:14 China Standard Time (UTC+08:00).
      • Competition ends 15th Dec, 2018 @ 11:13:14 China Standard Time (UTC+08:00).
      • Everyone is allowed to participate except Vite staff/devs 😁
      • Competition may be ended without notice (in the event of hackers/bots/spams).

    • RE: Vite Android Wallet APP is Online! (and Campaign of Reporting Bugs)

Another bug (or lack of feature) in Android wallet is that it is able to scan QR code with embedded vite address such as

      vite:vite_9070efe96cc05d58ddc330605362d2de258a40ecfce9e9393a

      frame1.png

but unable to scan QR scan with embedded vite address + amount + data

      vite:vite_9070efe96cc05d58ddc330605362d2de258a40ecfce9e9393a?amount=1?data=datahere

      frame2.png

The forum QR code format is vite address + amount + data so that means that the Android wallet is unable to scan those.

Another one is that the input box of the Android wallet accepts formatted text, which should not be the case. See photo for example.

Don't need the rewards. Just want to report bugs 😁

    • RE: New user here, don't understand concept of staking or PoW to allow voting.

      @JD

      1. If I decide to stake, which quota recipient address would I use? My own Vite address?

Yes the quota recipient would be your own address if you want quota for yourself. Most people won't need need to stake as most people won't need to perform advanced transactions. So make sure you want to before you actually stake as your staked tokens will be locked up for 3 days (but you will be able to withdraw the full amount after the 3 days are up).

      1. With PoW, does this just confirm I'm not a bot to protect the network from spam or does it provide the network with a beneficial service? How long does my machine do this PoW work? Only 1 sec or so?

It's simply just a math calculation to prevent dust attacks/spam/network abuse. The PoW is very minimal. Only takes about 2 seconds. You can try it out for yourself in the web wallet. Send a transaction to someone, and click "PoW". The wallet will initiate a PoW and will be done before you know it πŸ˜‹

    • Future of Vite Pay?

Currently Vite Pay, which is a product of Vite is still in very basic stages. I believe currently it only serves the Chinese Vite Store? Would love to see something like APIs, callback functions, client integration and most of all, a proper Vite Pay website (currently it's just a empty shell).

It would totally be an eye opener if one day I were to see a website/shopping cart display a "Pay with Vite" button in their payment options 😳

Do you guys already have plans to bring VitePay to the next level or anything like that?

    • RE: [SBP Proposal] Snap Secure - Jan 20, 2019 - Tokens... for everyone

Been thinking about it and don't know if this faucet is a viable long term thing. What started out as a good thing now ruined by a few users now dominating legitimate users in trying to withdraw from the faucet multiple times. They will use undetectable (botnet?) proxies/VPN and try bypass the checks in place. They will use multiple wallet addresses with multiple IP addresses, and then pool them all into one account.

There's are some ways to better secure it such as implementing account signup/email/SMS verification but is that too much for just a simple faucet?

Or perhaps only allow certain countries to access the faucet as most of the fraudulent users seem to come from Russia, Lithuania, Bangladesh etc (but this is discriminating and also ineffective as they can always switch to proxy/VPN from an unbanned country).

Or maybe this is just a failed experiment πŸ˜›

Currently we've lower the amount to 1 Vite - if these guys want their Vite, they're gonna have to work for it.

Anyhow we will continue to host the faucet for now and see how it goes.

We will continue to work/brainstorm on other great(er) ideas and make Vite awesome.

@viteuser That's not exactly correct. The tokens currently on exchanges are not the testnet tokens. The tradable ones are ERC-20 tokens - which is what is on the exchanges.

And well it's a testnet. For testing and implementing functions/features. Still in early testing and development stage. Things are bound to break but I'm sure they will get around to fixing it.

Now if the mainnet breaks, that's a different story πŸ˜‹
