    • Vite Supernode Removal & Full Node Reward Increase

      6771ff39-3cc4-48f6-8a6f-1daee2af946d-image.png

      Official SBP Removal Update

As of today, the five official Vite SBPs have been removed from the SBP voting pool. This means that if you previously voted for a Vite SBP, your vote is no longer valid.

If we didn’t make it clear enough in this post, please (if you haven’t done so already) re-cast your votes for a community SBP.

      Full Node Reward Increase

Prior to the launch of the Pre-Mainnet, full node rewards were calculated based on mining rewards obtained by the official Vite SBPs. After the Pre-Mainnet launch, the daily distribution of full node rewards was set at 5,700 VITE. However, Vite labs has decided to increase this amount by a factor of 2.6 to 14,820 VITE.

TLDR: Vite SBPs were removed and starting from today, June 5, until the Vite Mainnet launches, the daily full node reward will be fixed at 14,820 VITE.

    • Vite Pre-Mainnet Hard Fork Announcement

      b6dfcfeb-ed85-42f6-be37-553a86d3b9ff-image.png
Attention all Vite nodes: the Vite Pre-Mainnet will have a hard fork at 11 pm PST on July 2, 2019.

If you’re running a Vite node, please make sure to upgrade on time.

      Hard Fork Details

The hard fork will begin at 11 pm PST on July 2, at which point the block height will be 3,848,471.

You can find the upgrade link here: https://github.com/vitelabs/go-vite/releases/tag/v2.2.0

This hard fork, nicknamed SEED, will be the 1st hard fork since the launch of the Pre-Mainnet. The main purpose of this fork is to boost the integrity of random number generation (to make them harder to predict) for smart contracts.

      New Features

In this hard fork, the SeedCount parameter will be added to ensure that generated random numbers are unpredictable. When creating a contract, you need to specify the SeedCount and ConfirmTime parameters of the new contract (only the ConfirmTime is specified before the hard fork):

      • SeedCount indicates the number of snapshot blocks containing the random number that have confirmed the request sent to this contract before the response is executed.
      • ConfirmTime indicates the number of snapshot blocks for which the request sent to this contract was confirmed before responding to that transaction.

The contract response transaction must satisfy both SeedCount and ConfirmTime. If a contract is created before the hard fork, the SeedCount defaults to the ConfirmTime value after the hard fork.

In addition, a new random number function will be added to support generating multiple random numbers with one command.

      Other upgrades:

      • By default, vmlog (ie event) is not saved. If you need to use vmlog for smart contracts, be careful to modify node_config.json before deploying the new version, and configure any of the following parameters:

“VmLogAll”: true will save the vmlog of all contracts
“VmLogWhiteList”:[“vite_d789431f1d820506c83fd539a0ae9863d6961382f67341a8b5”,”vite_000000000000000000000000000000000000000292292d996d”] means that only the vmlog of the specified contract is saved.

      • Event subscription will now support new transaction and pending transaction events for individual accounts.

Well, what are you waiting for? Go upgrade your node!

    • Vite Pre-Mainnet Official Launch!

      1557468430306-48db0694-d87a-4880-b02f-5b305c2395ed-image.png

Vite was purpose-built to address current limitations in blockchain technology

Frontier technologies gain mass adoption by proving multi-sector business cases and use cases. In the world of blockchain, a public chain is a platform for application development and for safely exchanging value and information on a public ledger. In other words, it is an ecosystem of trust. Vite believes in open-source development and decentralization; anyone can use our public chain without permission and without identity authentication. Over the past year, public chain development and core blockchain technologies have attracted worldwide attention.

Public chains today are mired in problems related to throughput, latency, scalability and security. These factors are key to applying blockchain in the context of enterprise or government. Vite addresses each specific issue. Built as a holistic ecosystem of interoperable technologies, Vite is the world's first public chain to implement smart contracts on DAG (Directed Acyclic Graph) architecture. Our technical features include Snapshot Chain, asynchronous architecture and HDPoS (Hierarchical Delegated Proof of Stake) consensus mechanism.

      Vite's Development Timeline

The Vite platform has been in development since June of 2018. Over the course of 11 versions, the Vite labs team has slowly but surely fulfilled the promises made in our white paper.

      September 2018
The first version of go-vite 0.1 was released, implementing functions of the DAG ledger and asynchronous architecture, both of which are central to the public chain.

      November 2018
Testnet 1.0.0 was released alongside Supernode mining capabilities.

      December 2018
The smart contract language, Solidity ++, was implemented and the reward program was instituted for all nodes.

      January 2019
Go-vite 1.2.0 was released, featuring support for the creation and calling of smart contracts.

      February 2019
The smart contract development tool was released. A second hard fork, code-named MINT, was opened and multiple system-wide optimizations took place to improve block rate.

      March 2019
      Planning for the Pre-Mainnet began.

      May 2019
Pre-Mainnet was released and the first step towards the Vite Mainnet was taken.

The Pre-Mainnet upgrade began on May 21, 2019, officially beginning the Mainnet transition process. The Pre-Mainnet is an important milestone that accomplishes functions consistent with both the upcoming Mainnet and those outlined in the white paper.

How are the Pre-Mainnet and Testnet Different?

      • Testnet Data Mapping

After the release of Pre-Mainnet, Testnet transaction records will be cleared but users' account statuses will be unaffected. User account balances (such as VITE and VCP), voting information, staking information and Supernode information will be directly mapped to the Pre-Mainnet version of the founding block. Users can access the new version of the wallet through their original mnemonic phrase.

      • Updated Supernode Reward Mechanism

Vite has an inflation model of 3% annually. Once Mainnet is live, this 3% will be used to reward Supernodes. In the Testnet, VITE was not inflated so Supernode rewards were distributed off-chain from a centralized Vite treasury. After the launch of Pre-Mainnet, reward distribution will become decentralized as Vite will use the coins from the 3% inflation to reward Supernodes.

Since the Supernode rewards issued during the Testnet phase were never sent into circulation, in order to ensure that the total circulation of VITE remains unchanged, the Vite team will burn the corresponding amount of rewarded VITE. All reward data will be transparent and the Vite team will publish burn records.

      • Optimization of on-chain data structure decreases fork rate

In the Testnet, account blocks rely on Snapshot Chain. If the Snapshot Chain is forked, the transaction statuses of all accounts are affected. On the Pre-Mainnet, the two-way dependency between the DAG ledger and the Snapshot Chain allows them to be recorded asynchronously, resulting in a reduction in the fork rate. Even if the Snapshot Chain is forked, the account blocks are not affected and users do not have to re-initiate their transactions.

      • Re-design of quota calculation

The quota calculation method is more stable in Pre-Mainnet than in Testnet.

      • On-Chain Random Number Generator Update

This update improves developers' ability to generate random numbers for dApps (decentralized applications), ensuring that the random number cannot be manipulated or predicted.

      • Optimization of Ledger Storage

This update optimizes data storage structure by changing random writing into sequential writing. Additionally, we implemented a multi-level storage scheme which improves the query cache rate.

      • Optimization of Ledger Synchronization

This update decouples downloading and writing logic, implementing an asynchronous download of the ledgers.

Changes to Supernode and Full Node Rewards

After upgrades are completed, Vite's five official Supernodes will be gradually withdrawn from the list of Supernodes over the course of two weeks (Vite SBP-01, Vite SBP-02, Vite SBP-03, Vite SBP-04, Vite SBP-05). Moving forward, the Vite community determines which Supernodes to vote in and full node rewards will continue to be issued.

The total rewards for all nodes will be calculated based on the May 21 release date. On May 21, the total rewards for full nodes will be about 5,700 VITE.

After the Pre-Mainnet goes live, Supernode daily rewards will be changed from automatic issuance to manual extraction. The voting rewards remain unchanged and will be automatically issued to each voting wallet daily.

During the upgrade, all node rewards will be suspended as the wallet will not work properly. After the upgrade, all features will be restored.

      What's Next?

      DEX
We will formally launch ViteX, our DEX, in June 2019. VITE will be tradeable after the launch of ViteX.

      Mainnet
Our Mainnet will be launched in Q3 of 2019. Following the launch, VITE ERC20 token swap will restart and VITE ERC20 tokens on other exchanges such as OKex, Bittrex and UpBit will be converted to VITE native coins.

Regardless of what we get up to further down the road, we couldn't have accomplished what we have so far without the help & support of our community. A big shout out to everyone who's downloaded our wallet, taken part in our campaigns, provided feedback on our products, voted on proposed changes, and whatever else we threw at you—a huge thank you from all of us here at Vite Labs!

    • A Tutorial for GRIN Miners

For all the GRIN miners out there looking for an easier way to move your hard-earned tokens, look no further. The Vite Wallet now supports fast & easy GRIN transactions.

      1. Download the Vite Wallet (if you haven’t already)
Simply search “Vite Wallet” on the App Store or download it straight from our website here: https://www.vite.org.

      2. Set up your account
Create a password, spend 30 minutes memorizing your seed phrase, etc…etc… See here for a detailed Vite Wallet 101 article.

3a. Receive GRIN using an Http Address
Open up your Vite Wallet and hit the “GRIN” bar. Then, choose the "Receive" option. Hit the "Http Address" button:

      6bb356c3-a5f0-46f8-a4fb-f2df94a97cba-image.png

On the following page, you'll see something like this:

      59fa3bf7-749b-48e7-9596-40c5a6f34bcc-image.png

You will need to copy this exact Http address onto your mining pool's payout page so that you can receive the transaction.

Now, go to your mining pool payout page and paste the http address. And...that's it! Your GRIN will be received shortly.

*Please note that prior to 10 confirmations, the transaction status will be marked as "Received". After 10 confirmations, the transaction status will change to "Confirmed" and your wallet balance will officially change.

3b. Receive GRIN using a transaction file
If you prefer to use a transaction file, the Vite wallet can open files sent through email, text & Airdrop. First, create a transaction file on your mining pool website. Send to yourself using whichever method you prefer. Open up the message or email that you attached the transaction file to and open it with your Vite Wallet app:

      Screen Shot 2019-04-26 at 5.21.45 PM.png

Once the file has been opened, you'll need to click "Receive and Share":

      Screen Shot 2019-04-26 at 6.02.42 PM.png

Share this file with your mining pool and you will receive those tokens in your Vite wallet after the mining pool processes the confirmation file. Once your mining pool confirms receipt of the file, the transaction will be sent. Again, after 10 confirmations, the transaction is fully complete.

    • ViteX AMA Video Transcript 1/3

For those of you who prefer reading over listening, this is the first in a three part article series of the ViteX AMA video transcript.

      As a quick introduction:
L = Luke Kim, Vite Labs CMO
      R = Richard Yan, Vite Labs COO & Co-founder
A = Allen, Vite Labs Technical Director

L: Good morning and welcome to sunny California. We have teammates calling from China as well as California because we are a global firm. Over the year we've had 40-plus engineers working very hard in order to build up ViteX which is our decentralized exchange, our DEX.

So that's the topic today. We want to share the DEX with you all and we've selected some really good questions fielded by the community. And of course, we want to group up these questions by way of consensus so we don't spend time on redundancies.

Today we're gonna highlight 20 or so of the top questions we've received. And for those of you asking good questions on live chat, well, you can interrupt me and we can change course because your questions are exactly why we tuned in today.

So without further ado I want to introduce both speakers today who are my good friends. Richard Yan is the COO and co-founder of our company. He went to school at Dartmouth and NYU. He has that background of Business and Finance. He was at Goldman Sachs and also at 2Sigma as a VP, so very much so a seasoned Wall Street professional.

And then Allen Liu here is a very seasoned senior architect. So he has experience with various types of back-end systems. And notably he worked in IBM and HP both in technical leadership positions.

My name is Luke there are only two things I want to share with you. Number one I'm a director for Startup Grind. If you know about Startup Grind, we're in the same community, basically tribesmen. And secondly, I work as a faculty member for Berkeley Blockchain Xcelerator. So there's four of us, I'm one of them. If you would like to apply for the Berkeley Blockchain Xcelerator or you want resources from, then definitely speak with me. You can tag us on a telegram, so on and so forth.

So without further ado, the most important question actually thrown at us is:

What differentiates ViteX, our exchange, from other exchanges. And also what differentiates ViteX the token from other exchange tokens, like BNB. It's the question of why should we use you, why should we stop using other exchanges, what makes you better?

We are ready to answer. So Richard without further ado that's you.

R: Okay, great, thank you very much Luke, and good morning everyone, or good evening around the world. So the key difference between ViteX and other exchanges is that ViteX is fully decentralized. And the benefit of fully decentralized exchange is that no one has custody of the assets that you trade on the DEX exchange—that's the whole point of decentralization.

There are many other semi-decentralized exchanges that are also called DEX'es, but one key difference between us and them is that their matching engine is not decentralized. And the reason why they're unable to do it on chain is because of the performance lag of the public blockchain that they are built upon.

So Vite is a public blockchain that is fast and free, effectively solving that problem. And that's why ViteX is able to have an on chain order matching engine and that's what makes it truly decentralized.

In terms of the key difference between VX (which is the token of ViteX) and other tokens out there, is that as VX holder you are entitled to income from the exchange and this is entirely different from many other exchanges out there.

In addition VX has no pre-mining, no presale, there's no public or private sale. And holders of VX are entitled 100% of all the fees and incomes generated by the exchange, permanently. So just to be clear, the Vite team will be entitled to about 10% of VX, but that's linearly released similarly to how VX is being released for everyone else. And just to give you a quick comparison with the Binance DEX, so due to the way the public blockchain is structured that undergirdles the finance exchange, in order to make a trade, whether the trade succeeds or not, and if you cancel that trade, you are charged a fee. That's just the way BNB DEX works.

And that is not the way ViteX works at all. On ViteX, if you make a trade, if it doesn't go through, there's no transaction fee, period. If you cancel a trade, there's no transaction fee, period. And that's all owing to the fact that ViteX is built on Vite which offers free transactions. And then all you're paying are just fees for the exchange itself, not for the public chain underneath.

And also there are many other ways you can earn VX, the token. Trading is mining. Listing is mining, which basically means if you list a trading pair that will help you mine VX. You can get VX through staking, basically you would stake Vite for the benefit of the ViteX smart contract, and that would be one way to earn VX as well. You can also refer others to join ViteX and that's how you get VX. There are a few other ways to earn VX as well, and I think the multi-dimensional nature of how you acquire this crypto is another way we differentiate ourselves from other platforms out there.

L: So Richard, one community feedback is we need more energy and more volume from your side. Like think back to your military school days, by the way, community, Richard did go to an American military school. I have a follow-up question to what you just said which is what is the difference specifically and shortly between Vite the V-I-T-E capital letters token, VX and VCP. There are three.

R: Okay, yeah, so it's hard to match the energy level of our CMO, I will tell you that. Like compared to him, I'm obviously just gonna be like a slow person walking.

So okay. So Vite is obviously the token for our public blockchain. And it's basically the currency you need to hold in order to perform transactions. One correction to that, you actually don't need to even have Vite in order to send transactions as long as you do a proof of work. But the Vite currency is something you'll hold in order to secure more TPS quota for larger amounts of transactions you want to send per unit of time.

VX is the token for the exchange. Remember we have the public blockchain which is kind of like your information highway. And on top of that you get all these DApps or cars running on it. And then the exchange is but one of those cars.

We're also tokenizing other cities in America, those are DApps. We've got games, those are DApps. So we've got payment systems, those are DApps. And the exchange is a heavy-duty industrial strength DApp. But it is a DApp nonetheless. And the DApp is called ViteX and the token associated with it is VX.

And VX can be used to basically receive proceeds from the exchanges I previously talked about. And what is VCP? VCP is the currency being used on Vite's stores.

In the future as we expand to offer this kind of "store as a service" to other e-commerce platforms they will be able to take their own currencies, or they can choose to take VCP. But VCP is yet another coin issue or another token issue on the Vite chain. That's the difference between these three.

L: Gotcha, very concise as always. Okay so I have a question actually from the live audience. That's a question for Allen, and that is:

Will ViteX be available as its own mobile app, and if so, when would that mobile app be ready. And if you have any special things to say about the app then feel free to do so.

A: Yes, there will be mobile version of ViteX, however, considering the screen size limitation of a mobile device, a full version of ViteX won't be available on Vite mobile app in the near future. The web version of ViteX should meet most of the trading requirements at this time. However, we will have a "lite" version of ViteX in mobile. In other words, we won't offer support for candlestick charts views, but users will be able to purchase or sell crypto tokens by using the app to place buy or sell orders at the best bid price. This trading service will share the same order book with ViteX. This version of mobile ViteX is in development and will be released later.

R: To add to that, to basically have all the full features of the exchange in a mobile app is too much. In fact, that is why we are going to have some basic functions that share the order book and DEX as the full fledged ViteX on the mobile app. One can always visit the full ViteX website from the mobile.

A: Don't recommend using web interface on mobile app because of security issues. The security of browsers in mobile is not fully verified by us. If you use such a browser to visit ViteX on your mobile, you will risk losing your private key and your crypto assets. This is very risky. You should always use ViteConnect when trading on ViteX but unfortunately if you load ViteX website in mobile browser you won't benefit from this feature.

L: By the way, I have to interject here, so ViteX on web. Let's talk about that for a second. And Allen this is a quick question for you:

Was ViteX built in-house? That's a question that actually four of our community members were curious about. What they want to know is was ViteX built in house or did we outsource engineers. And from a technical perspective, what are some differences between our DEX and other DEX'es? Let's be honest I was at Consensus New York and every second booth is an exchange or someone trying to operate an exchange and it just seems like everyone and their mothers is releasing a DEX. So why are we special?

A: Yeah, that's a good question. That's correct. ViteX is completely built on the top of Vite blockchain by the Vite team. It's a DApp, and one keystone of Vite ecosystem. It is the first fully decentralized exchange built on a DAG-based smart contract, where orders are matched on the chain and user's assets are managed on the chain to ensure full transparency in all aspects of the trading experience.

L: Gotcha, and I think I should segue into something important which is security and bad actors. In the world of cryptocurrency and blockchain we all know that bad actors and security is a concern.

Vite, we are saying we are the industrial and public sector organization that provides products that can scale that can hold up to industrial quality security.

So Richard I have a question:

How can wash trading for example be prevented for mining purposes and what are the vulnerabilities we might have considered in the building of ViteX?

R: To answer the second part we built something called ViteConnect which currently allows people to access the web version of ViteX by scanning a QR code on their mobile phone. And this is because we don't want to have people enter their private key or seed phrase through the web browser, which is easily hackable. So this is definitely one security concern that we've taken into account.

Regarding the earning of VX through wash trading, to be completely honest this is not something that is easily trackable. Even for other exchanges, the act of wash trading is difficult to detect.

Like for example if you have five or six different accounts and then you just trade among those six accounts. It's hard to say if that's wash trading or not wash trading. So in this sense this is not something that we're tracking right now. But we're always open to suggestions and ideas from others.

      L: So following that though"

Are there are other security problems such as DDoS, hacking, SMS SIM swapping?

R: Yes, so I think that Allen would be able to answer that question. I am happy to take that as well.

A: Yeah yeah, I can take over.

You know for security, ViteX, as a fully decentralized exchange unlike traditional exchanges. ViteX is a decentralized exchange running on a public chain. In order to launch a spam attack, you must have enough quota first, and in order to have enough quota you have to buy a large amount of VITE coins, which is not easy, and will be more difficult considering current VITE price is undervalued. Similarly, as a fully decentralized exchange, assets are not stored in centralized servers, but kept in individual accounts on-chain, secured by user's private keys. This means that each user is responsible for storing his or her own private key safely so that they do not get hacked.

L: So this is where I have to go even deeper for the interest of our community. We have these things called DEX operators and cross chain gateways and this is known to be around the topic of centralization and so Allen could you:

Elaborate as to what our DEX operators do, what is the process for on-boarding and then talk about how that works within our system of decentralization?

A: In ViteX, anyone can be an Operator. Any user can issue a new token on Vite platform, and once a token has been issued, they will need an Operator in order to list trading pairs. Typically, the Operator will need to be relatively big with lots of token resources. Some tokens can be directly issued on Vite platform, which would make the VITE tokens. However, for other coins that are not native to the Vite chain such as Bitcoin or Ethereum, you will need gateways to transfer coins and tokens from one chain to another. As such, gateways play a very important role in our decentralized exchange. Additionally, these gateways also play an important role in centralized exchanges, like Binance. You need gateways to manage these assets.

L: There's a little bit of trust and security that's mixed into the concept of gateway operators and gateways which are definitely necessary for exchanges. Richard could you add some color here about:

      1. A more holistic idea of what gateway operators do in Vite?
      2. What is our approach to the idea of duplicate trading pairs across zones? Would that be confusing for users?

R: Yeah so yeah just to add to Allen's previous point about how these gateways work. They're basically the entry point from outside of the Vite world into the Vite world. So right now the state-of-the-art solution of such cross-chain transfers still is the gateway model.

So the way we're approaching this is that we ask entities that want to become gateways to be credible, to have history of operating such things, and to basically go through some kind of application process.

And we do ask that our users pay particularly close attention to these gateways before submitting your coins to them. Just because ultimately in the ethos of blockchain you are self-sovereign for your asset. As soon as your asset enters the Vite ecosystem, it is in a completely decentralized world.

But before that, if you have a non-Vite native coin, you do need to deposit a coin with a gateway. So that's how the gateway operates.

And then as far as duplicated trading pairs go, what Luke is referring to, is the fact that operators are able to list trading pairs. And so for example, gateway A might have their own version of bitcoin and gateway B can have their own version of bitcoin.

The way I think about this is that it's kind of like stablecoins. So think about the difference between packs and TrueUSD. So the asset backing these coins are all US dollars but they have different representations. In fact both of them are on the ERC 20.

So the example that I gave is very similar in this vein you could have one representation of bitcoin and another representing another bitcoin. These are sort of a byproduct by the fact that we are decentralized in the sense that many different parties can become gateways.

And this theoretically could be a source of confusion. But the extent of the confusion is no more than the confusion of between TrueUSD and PAX. And in fact I think this can create arbitrage opportunities for interested traders, just like how you can arb for the value differential between the two stable coins I just mentioned.

    • ViteX AMA Video Transcript 2/3

Part 2/3 of the AMA video transcript series.

      As a reminder:

L = Luke Kim, Vite Labs CMO
      R = Richard Yan, Vite Labs COO & Co-founder
A = Allen, Vite Labs Technical Director

L: It seems like we're getting into the weeds of token economics. In particular, ViteX has some attractive ways to earn VX and be participants in the community, the system itself. I'm seeing quite a few questions on livestream, and I want to touch on something quite specific.

According to our release schedule, we say that on the launch date there will be 477220 VX marked for release. How would that work exactly? Does that mean that on day one users would receive higher amounts of VX compared to day 2, 3, 10, so on? Is that how things will work? Could we just clarify for the user base how VX will be released on launch dates and forwards?

A: Exactly. Once the mining functionality is enabled, the daily VX tokens released will strictly follow the schedule, where in the first day a total of 477,220 VX will be distributed, and on the last day of the second year 37,050 VX will distributed. Essentially, this is a falling distribution curve and each day the amount of VX released will be less than the previous day. After 2 years, all VX will be 100% released and there will be no further supply.

L: I got a very basic question for Richard:

Could one purchased coins on ViteX with a credit card?

[brief interruption to announce AMA question winners]

R: ... but back to the credit card question. We are currently working on an integration with a stable coin provider who also has provided a function of purchasing crypto with a credit card. This is traditionally what's called a crypto on-ramp. Once that's been integrated, our wallet will provide this functionality.

L: ...so we're talking about ViteX and I think that's worth exploring. One question is:

Do we plan to list VX on other exchanges? Do we have plans to integrate ViteX with other exchanges such as Binance or Binance DEX? Do we plan to list VX on other exchanges and would our exchange integrate with other exchanges at all?

R: So we are definitely interested in getting listed on other exchanges. There's no reason why not. It's just another coin and we want liquidity for our users. So there will definitely be effort in that regard. But the first exchange where the VX will be traded is obviously ViteX exchange.

As far as the second question, which is, will Binance DEX be somehow integrated with our exchange. We're currently exploring the possibility of also supporting BEP2 in our wallet. As you know, our multi-chain wallet now supports all Vite native coins. It supports all ERC20 as well as GRIN which is notoriously difficult to integrate.

We're looking to integrate with more chains as well and BEP2 is one such example. That's number one. Number two: for a Binance supported coin to enter into our ecosystem we basically need to have a gateway of some sort that sponsors that. And once we have that gateway then I don't see why we won't be able to get the Binance BEP2 coins listed on our exchange.

And in terms of DApps sharing with other exchanges we're certainly happy to facilitate that. In fact the entire code base for ViteX is open source. We are working with other centralized exchanges to see if they are interested in expanding their product offering to other DEXes.

This benefits them in different ways. Number one, this is a new product that they're offering to their existing customer base. Number two, the technology that we have built is on a fast and free chain, so the centralized exchange can get all these features for free. And number three, if there's some kind of dapps sharing between our ViteX and their version of ViteX then this is a win-win situation. Their users can come and trade our coins and vice versa. So we're definitely open to that possibility.

L: There's an interjection in the live stream and this question has two parts:

How will we make volume on our exchange and also, would we be doing IEOs on our exchange. I feel this relates to some questions fielded by four of our community members. Basically will be ViteX support initial sale of other projects and that includes IEOs or IDOs. Would you be able to clarify this, Richard?

**R:**Yeah absolutely. So as I mentioned earlier listing is mining, so we clearly encourage others to lists tokens on the platform. If it's a Vite native coin then there's no need for a gateway. If there's a non-Vite native coin such as BTC or ETH, then you would need a gateway.

But the question is, do we do IEOs, IDOs, and so forth. The difference between a listing and an IDO/IEO is simply PR in my opinion. So I don't think the Vite team will be endorsing any particular coin that comes on our platform. I think will be supportive of that effort but that support will be symmetrical between all these different coins. So I think that, to the extent that IEOs on centralized exchanges would involve lots of PR on the exchanges part, I don't think that's something that we'll be looking into. That means I think we'll be tweeting about it, we'll be sharing this information with our community as this is a benefit to our community, meaning more coins are coming to the system. But I don't think we're going to pay particularly close attention to one coin over another, so I think that answers the question, right?

L: Yeah, yeah, totally. And then another audience question is:

Will you list Vite as a BEP2 token on the Binance chain for liquidity in the future as many blockchain projects did, would that be something in our roadmap?

R: Yeah, that is a possibility as well. If we were to do that we would probably participate in the buying and DEX competition. I think that's certainly a possibility. But that's a lot of work both from someone from the engineering side but mostly from the operating side. So that's something we're looking very strongly at.

It's also a trade-off of resources. For example, developing and operating the exchange that we have now, namely ViteX, is already a significant amount of work. So we will definitely explore that particular option.

I think the earlier question that I actually haven't addressed in full is about volume. And I just want to address it really quickly here. The key about volume is few different things. Number one is the types of coins being traded. Number two is the trading experience. And number three is just the user base. I would say out of all three, perhaps the last one is the most important.

We're trying to expand the user base through BD (business development), through DApp sharing with other potential platforms and so forth. But the most importantly though, I think the fact that ViteX basically provides its holders the benefit of holding the coins and getting income from the exchange is quite unique and we think that that will actually encourage lots of participation.

L: As we jump from technical to non-technical question and back and forth. Allen, I have one question for you. I think this is a very important question because it fits with our BD roadmap as well of interoperability and partnership making.

Will there be APIs released to allow other crypto projects, blockchain projects, to incorporate trading within their own websites and how would that be done through ViteX?

A: Yeah, definitely there will be APIs. The ViteX API is designed for this kind of purpose. Other crypto projects who would like to create their own exchanges can easily develop their own exchange web UI and then plug into the order book and order matching engine on ViteX by calling the ViteX API. In this manner, any 3rd party decentralized exchange will have independent look-and-feel and the same order book, on the top of ViteX technology and Vite public chain.

L: Yeah I mean Vite DEX is our most powerful DAapp right now. Let's see I think this is about time to release our winning questions from our community members. But rest assured we haven't hit everything that you're curious about so we will go over time. But in case any of you have to step away from the computer the three winning questions that we have from community members submissions are:

Number one: how do we mitigate the risk of DEX operators running away with users' coins. This question touches on the concept of DEX operators, the concept of a full decentralization, partial centralization, and the necessity of cross chain gateways to run a truly global fast DLS and scalable ecosystem in blockchain.

The second question we want to reward is, will there be APIs released to allow other crypto projects to incorporate trading within their websites -- this one which Allen just addressed. And actually we would love to hear from you if you're part of a project, if you're part of a product, that would love to work with us.

And thirdly, the question which we thought was most astute was, how do you deal with security problems such as hacking, DDoS, and SMS SIM swapping because the truth is centralized exchanges or any centralized system is vulnerable to corruption and to comfortability so part of our value proposition when we say decentralized or DEX is that we are more or less incorruptible at least compared to the existing players. So all in all, these are very good questions that we received, and again we received so many good ones so if you didn't win this it doesn't mean you're not special, it means there's only three places for winners right now.

For the audience in YouTube chat, you can hit us up after this AMA.

Your question of, will you list Vite as a BEP2 token on Binance chain as many other publics did, that was a pretty good question and I think it opened up conversation so you get a reward.

The second from our live chat, and that question was, how will we make volume on the exchange and would we be doing IEOs and that led into another topic of IDOs and many other types of token events.

And the third question that we have from the livestream audience which we thought was pretty good and is a very non-technical question. The third question is how did you survive during the bear market and what are your future challenges. This question is either the easiest or the hardest to answer depending on what you know. I know quite a few partnership managers and CMOs and blockchain friends of mine who are in sinking ships and the fact that we survived last year is a pretty good thing. Richard and Allen can you both speak to that.

Can we talk about why we won last year and why we're gonna continue to win?

R: The bear market is still not over, and I don't know if we fully survived. I'm just kidding. I mean, to be honest with you, it's quite simple. Many projects spend all of their money on marketing or yachts or getting Tom Cruise to speak on their sessions. And we don't do that. We spend all of our money on actual development and making sure DEX comes out.

I mean, recently I was in a chat talking to someone else comparing us to another project in another East Asian country which also uses DAG and then I went to that project's Medium page and checked out what they have, and they have absolutely nothing. I think projects like that can probably create short-term focus and attention from the community but they won't last in the long run. Ultimately, I think the projects that last are the ones that have produced. And I think this will be our strategy going forward.

What I find puzzling is that I think this is actually the easiest thing to do, and that is, say something and then just do it. Do what you promised that you're gonna deliver. The hard thing is actually to you say you're gonna do X and keep dangling that carrot in front of the donkey and not delivering. I feel that for us is hard.

So if there's any secret sauce it would be that philosophy that we follow and we're just going to continue following that philosophy going forward.

      L: How about you Allen?

A: Actually, I want to say something about the technical development in the future. After ViteX gets released, we will probably release our mainnet in Q3 2019, ahead of schedule. This will be a big milestone in Vite development roadmap. We believe when the timing is right, ViteX has been used widely, and Vite blockchain can handle a large amount of transactions, that means Vite mainnet will be about to launch. After that, I can share something new, we will develop something called Vite 2.0. This will be sexy and what we are gonna push forward in the next year. I can share a little bit more about that. The technology will be related to cross-chain capabilities built into Vite 2.0 protocol. In Vite 2.0 you can share assets with each other. Vite blockchain will be at the top level of the cross-chain protocol and handle the overall consensus via the snapshot chain. This definitely will be something exciting and we will have till the end of this year and next year.

R: Just to add to that. There are a few different priorities we're exploring right now.

Number one is obviously the decentralized exchange.

Number two is something we call public chain for public good. This is the government sector strategy that we're pursuing. We don't see a lot of blockchain use cases in public sector. And obviously we're pushing on with our multi-chain wallet and in addition to that, we're also pushing a payment solution based on a stable coin, a native stable coin on the Vite chain and what Allen referred to something called Vite 2.0 which is basically the next phase in our roadmap. It has a lot to do with cross-chain functionalities but I think more technical details which will be released a little bit later.

L: Just to sprinkle a bit of detail. If anybody in our audience knows a king, a mayor, a president, a union leader, or something like that, you let us know because we were the first to pilot this historical first project with Syracuse New York in which we designed a token economy for a city so that the mayor could raise his own funds for infrastructure and social projects.

We've already submitted applications and proposals to the West African Monetary Institute, to the European Union, to Rhode Island, to various other parties, UNICEF, about public financing, nonprofit financing through blockchain.

Anyhow we need to continue this Q&A, so stay active on the live chat. To bring it all back, I have one question which is, just so everybody's clear here:

How would a project get listed on ViteX and do we from our team have any requirements, mandatory requirements, which the team must meet to get listed on ViteX? This one's for you, Richard.

R: Currently there are no requirements. I mean it's kind of like, you know, the American First Amendment of free speech. What is considered free speech? Is hate speech free speech? The problem is that once you set a bar somewhere it's very easy for that bar to enter the slippery slope and then ultimately speech gets censored. What we're trying to do here is that we're not censoring any coins right now, we're not endorsing any points right now, and we're basically following the blockchain ethos of being fully open and transparent.

L: So following that question, this is a question for Allen:

What do you think of large transaction volume, scalability, as in will our DEX be capable of supporting a large volume and a hugely growing community at a very fast rate because, let's be honest, I am the CMO, I want to believe that our DEX will be the most popular DEX forever and will be the dominant industry player forever and so if that happens, I mean, can we handle it technically?

A: Yeah, absolutely. Everybody cares about the TPS. So I'm gonna share something here. TPS is transaction volume. For a decentralized exchange, TPS depends on how powerful the underlying blockchain is. Since Vite is a DAG-based, super fast public chain, ViteX, which is built on top of it will have the same benefits. Super-fast order matching and high scalability is the typical characteristics of ViteX. Compared to the low order processing throughput of other DEXes -- some of them are at single digit level, ViteX is capable of handling at least 100 orders per second. And, also please remember this is just the very first version, we have the confidence to improve this throughput number to a higher stage in the future.

    • ViteX AMA Video Transcript 3/3

      The final part. Enjoy!

L = Luke Kim, Vite Labs CMO
      R = Richard Yan, Vite Labs COO & Co-founder
A = Allen, Vite Labs Technical Director

L: As we talk about scalability though and expansion we have to address this question:

The main problem today with DEXess is an issue of liquidity and so for us, how would we solve these issues, what are they in the first place, and what other DEXs would be able to connect with ViteX in order to provide liquidity. What do you think Richard?

R: This actually is sort of similar to another question that was asked earlier. Essentially that's sharing and volume increase. So I think that DApp sharing has a lot to do with future BD (Business Development) efforts. If we were to get other centralized exchanges to also deploy their DEXes by using our protocol then there could be some kind of DApp sharing. In terms of the volume increase I think the participation has to do with the fact that the VX coin holders will be receiving all the proceeds from the exchanging fees and incomes which is a very attractive point. And remember the VX coin itself has no pre-mining nor public or private sale. There's a finite amount. There's zero inflation. And they'll all be distributed within two year's time. So I think that people want the VX coin and the way to get them. One of the most prominent ways is to trade and so this is going to get people to participate.

L: So on the topic of VX. We have a distribution timeline for VX and a question for you Allen:

Once all the VX have been distributed, all the tokens have been released, then how can our DEX get quota, how can our DEX contract get quota?

A: Yeah, definitely this is a good question. Yeah, I can answer that. After all the VX has been mined, that means 100% of it is distributed. We will definitely work together in a way with the ViteX community to work out a new plan. The basic idea is to take out a part of fee income to reward who stake quota for the DEX. But as I said, we are only responsible for bringing the proposal and will let the whole ViteX community to make the decision. This is sort of governance of ViteX.

L: So given that we have a DPoS, or delegated proof of stake consensus model, and given that we are like a representative democracy, a blockchain in which there's a representative democracy to control, and the technical logic of trust and consensus, given all of that, the question is:

Will it be possible to build a completely independent DEX in the future which is not even operated by the Vite team which might be inspired by and of course built upon the code that we release, would that be possible? This is a question for you Richard.

R: The question seems to me, how do we build upon this DEX for other decentralized systems.

L: Also that, and would any party, any entity be able to create a completely independent DEX that is not operated by the Vite team.

R: Oh I see what you are saying. So a couple of things: at the beginning, this project is developed through a centralized effort for better organization and efficiency in development, so we don't fall into the Ethereum 2.0 development trap where there's no developers, nor innovation. But over time as the technology matures I'm sure that we're going to give the power of development back to the community. In addition, because the code is completely open source, others are free to just take the code, either implement for the benefit of another decentralized exchange or just develop it independently as a new exchange. So all three different avenues are possible.

But essentially, for someone that wants to contribute to this codebase independently and for the Vite team not to be involved in the future that is definitely a possibility.

L: Absolutely. Now back to trading and traders I have two questions actually on the live stream. First, many exchanges are excluding US customers in order to avoid certain legal issues.

What are our thoughts on this and how would this affect ViteX? And then secondly, would ViteX require KYC for large volume withdrawals?

And so these are two questions I feel we could address and they actually are related to another question raised by a couple of our community members, which is:

Do we have plans to allow margin trading on ViteX? In terms of trading and traders would we allow margin trading on ViteX and what would we do with US customers, and what would we do about KYC?

R: Okay, in terms of US customers, we want to be fully compliant with all the laws for every country that where we are operating in. But first of all, I want to point out that ViteX is a piece of code. It's something being deployed on a platform. There's no custody of assets. As such, we're just providing a platform and not actually running an exchange. That being said, it is possible for the regulator to be interpreting the exchange as more than just a platform so we will be providing geofence for countries that do not allow access to this kind of trading activity. So that means a company like us will be providing some kind of restriction. In terms of margin trading, that's not something in the plans right now. Margin trading can be extremely attractive but it just increases the volatility of your return, so it can be a tricky subject. That's not something that we are exploring right now. Was there another question?

L: I think you basically covered it but it was what will we do about US customers and KYC.

R: So I think the KYC would be conducted by the gateways themselves. So if you were to do a large deposit or withdrawal of VITE native coins, there's no KYC associated with that, but for the gateway products that will have to be something undertaken by the Gateway, that would be a policy left to the Gateway.

L: So actually let's bring it back here, speaking about gateways and also relatedly zones trading pairs, so we have a question:

Is there a clear indication of which trading zones and trading pairs are operated by ViteX and which are operated by external operators? Would we have that publicized somewhere in an easy-to-read manner?

R: The answer is yes. There will be. I think the interface will be, if you were to hover your mouse over the trading pair, or there might just be an indication right next to a trading pair which zone that trading pair belongs to. There will be no confusion as to which zone the trading pair belongs to.

L: Perfect, so actually we're at the final question submitted to us by the community so we can answer this one and maybe if the live audience has any burning desires, curiosities you can field those questions here and I'll make sure that they're addressed.

But the final thing that our community asked us:

**What are our funding sources for VX's future development and how do we plan to get users onto the platform, so what is our strategy for getting trader adoption on ViteX, what is our strategy for getting DApps and getting projects to list on ViteX, and what is our strategy of course for getting operators to operate cross-chain gateways for our DEX.

Many, many things here, so feel free to take your time on this. Richard you can start off and Allen of course you can jump in at any point.

R: Okay right now the development of ViteX is funded by the Vite Labs foundation, so it will be capital that we raise. And as a point that I alluded to earlier, we basically spend the capital that we raise on actual development. It's a huge amount of effort both in terms of engineering and operations to roll out a heavy-duty DApp like this, so we're very proud that it's finally live. But in the future in terms of maintenance and upgrades we'll still be footing the bill for developing and operating this DEX.

And in terms of getting more users and participation, I think we have a few different strategies. The number one is that VX is a coin that allows its holders to share in the benefits of the exchange. So I think this in and of itself is already a huge attraction point.

Number two is that our DEX is now live. I think we have more bargaining chips and perhaps just more visual outcome that we can use in our BD efforts; so that others might become interested in using the protocol, running either as a centralized exchange that wants to offer decentralized exchange as an additional product, or someone who just wants to develop a decentralized exchange independently, or an existing DEX that wants to basically share liquidity and depth with us. These are all possibilities.

And I think maybe the last point is just that as more centralized exchanges run into problems, namely you know the 7,000 Bitcoin loss by Binance. There was a tweet that I sent out about four weeks ago about how a centralized exchange in Ireland, one in Singapore and yet another one in another country, they all got hacked or had their founders run away with the money, all within a matter of weeks. As centralized exchanges' problems get exposed more and more I think there will be a lot more attention on decentralized exchange. And then, the fastest, the cheapest, and the decentralized exchange with the best user experience would naturally stand out. And this would be perhaps the third prompt of the strategy in terms of acquiring customers.

L: Amazing, so this time I want to start with you Allen so Allen, Richard, then me. Final questions:

What is the thing you're most excited about ViteX? Why is it exciting to you personally that we're releasing ViteX?

A: ViteX has its benefits. First it's built on the Vite blockchain that is super fast and free. Free transactions is attractive because it is helpful for lowing the cost of traders. Another point that I feel exciting is that ViteX is an open platform. Operators can build their own DEXs on ViteX. Like I said, ViteX has provided APIs and SDKs. Everybody can plug-in to share the same order book and order matching engine but also keeps their own style of website UIs. For the users, the operators build entirely new DEX on their own but in the meantime share the order book and liquidity of ViteX of all operators. This is very attractive especially for those who are not able to develop a DEX from the bottom-up. Building a DEX is not easy because of technical barriers. I believe this is the most exciting place for me.

R: Okay, for me, we've obviously touted many benefits of Vite and ViteX throughout this whole interview. I think some things that have been understated or unsaid are two things I'm really excited about.

Number one is our team and number two is our community. I'm excited about this team because every day I come into work I get to work with amazing and intelligent professional individuals. And it's a lot of fun. And then the second thing about our community is just that I want to say thank you for all of your support from all around the world and for paying attention through all of our products for using them, telling others about them, and for giving us critical feedback. So these are the things I am most excited about.

L: So well first off I love Vite Labs. It's my favorite company that I've ever joined. We're all good friends in the company, by the way, like our CEO Charles and Allen, they were like on the same bed bunks together in college and smoked cigarettes together for the first time. Like, Richard Yan just had a baby and I watched as that happened.

I mean we're meeting milestones not only in professional life but personal life. So first off, we're all friends here and we do want to create something cool. Look at this slogan [points to shirt]. But what makes me excited about ViteX is honestly it makes our ecosystem a full harmonious Zen circle. As in many, many, many, many companies have specialized in one product or another product: we have the best X, we have the best Y.

But for us we are offering an ecosystem, so with the invention of ViteX, what happens is a team can go into Vite, use our public chain, build something amazing with no fees, no transaction lag, completely scalable. And then this team can list their own tokens on Vite and then of course same team could also decide they're gonna stake tokens or mine.

They may also decide that our wallet is bthe est to use and then GRIN can also be stored in our wallet. So the wallet for independent individual users, the DEX for traders, and for those who want to list their projects, our public chain for people who want to make projects, the ecosystem is completed. And so it brings together three segments of blockchain, there's the trading, trading world, and so that's tokens.

But then there's also the software business world which is independent of trading and tokens. If you've got a good blockchain and it's a good enterprise software or governmental software, it'll be used.

And then there's also the world of DEX so that's the hackers, developers, and so we can bring together the tech who create value. The software business model which actually scales the use of blockchain into legacy systems all over the world and then we can also incorporate traders and those who just are excited to make money on tokens.

There's nothing wrong with trading by the way, I trade too. So we're gonna bring together all three. This is a harmonious circle or ecosystem. It's complete and it's feeless. So I don't know about you, but it's about the best FinTech that I could ever imagine.

We're done here, is there anything else, Richard, Allen?

R: I think we're good. Thank you very much Luke for hosting. And thank you Allen, it is now 1am in China, so thank you for staying up. Thank you for our entire community for watching this video so we're gonna say our goodbyes now and then we can say goodbye on the side chat as well. Thank you so much for making all this happen.

      Team: Bye bye, thank you.

    • ViteX AMA Video Transcript 2/3

Part 2/3 of the AMA video transcript series.

      As a reminder:

L = Luke Kim, Vite Labs CMO
      R = Richard Yan, Vite Labs COO & Co-founder

    • ViteX AMA Video Transcript 1/3

For those of you who prefer reading over listening, this is the first in a three part article series of the ViteX AMA video transcript.

      As a quick introduction:
L = Luke Kim, Vite Labs CMO
      R = Richard Yan, Vite Labs COO & Co-founder
