    • My Vite Testnet experience

Hey everyone, my name’s Ryan and I’ve been following Vite since early 2018. I participated in several of the community quizzes and have watched many of Richard’s AMA’s. I’ll be honest, at first I was just after free Vite tokens. But after learning more about the project I became a true supporter! I was a proud member of team Vite Elite of the Vite Fan Club and I converted my Vite erc20 to testnet as soon as I could.

The testnet experience for me has been pretty awesome so far. Converting my tokens was easy since I followed the guide. I’m sure it is even easier now that the function has been added directly to the Vite wallet. Upon conversion to testnet, I immediately began voting for one of the Vite SBPs and earning more Vite tokens every single day by doing so. I highly recommend everyone else to do the same, as it is a great (and easy) way to passively increase your Vite holdings. You can just set it and forget it! As far as I know, rewards are currently given for voting for any of the 5 official Vite SBPs or for the SwissVite SBP. I have been impressed with the speed of transactions and the user interface of the block explorer and the wallet. The Vite team knows what they’re doing and is constantly pumping out new developments. I also like how receptive they are to community feedback. They clearly realize how important community is in building a great project.

I also began running a full node on the first day that it went live and have earned many more Vite tokens by doing so. Again, I would encourage everyone else to do the same, as it is a great way to passively earn more Vite and it’s also your way of helping to build out the network. Plus you don’t even need any Vite to participate! I have encountered a slight hiccup a few days ago in running my node, but I have no doubt that the Vite devs will have a solution for the syncing problem I have encountered in a very timely manner. That’s just what they do. I’d also like to give a shout out to Plasmo for his contribution to the Vite ecosystem and for being a massive help to me while trying to navigate some of the more tech focused features of the testnet.

If the testnet is this great, I can’t wait to see what mainnet what looks like. Hats off to the Vite team and their constant improvements. I’m also looking forward to more applications for the Vite token as well as any new partnerships that the team is currently working on. Switch over your erc20s, start voting, run a node, contribute to the forum, ask questions, tell your friends and let’s all help to create something cool!

    • #insightvite - Syracuse Partnership

One of the Vite use cases that I am particularly excited about is the partnership with the city of Syracuse to address the issue of microloans for low-income members of the community. When you combine the transparency of the blockchain with the speed and ease of use of Vite, it makes for a great solution for a peer to peer microloan system. Members of the Vite team have already visited with Syracuse government officials to propose a blockchain based solution to this problem and, if their proposal is selected, vitelabs will spearhead the effort to develop the decentralized application that will help to address this problem.

This is a huge opportunity for Vite to get their foot in the door in a well known US city and prove just how valuable their platform can be for real world use cases. The problem of P2P microloans is one that is not unique to Syracuse and if Vite is able to develop an effective solution, then it could eventually be expanded to many more cities across the US and the world. I am sure that Syracuse officials have been impressed by the capabilities of the Vite platform and that is why they chose to enter a partnership with them. Not only is this a great way for Vite to showcase their prowess and use cases to local governments, but it is also an exciting step for blockchain in general. Until blockchain projects are able to demonstrate and develop real world use cases for their platforms, blockchain will not achieve the mass adoption that all of us early adopters are striving for.

Like any governmental processes, the selection of a solution to the microloan problem in Syracuse will take time. If Vite has fleshed out their developer tools and successfully been able to grow a robust developer community by the time the selection has been finalized, then Vitelabs can hand development of this project over to the community. Ideally, it would be residents of Syracuse who help take control of this project and develop a blockchain solution to assist their low-income neighbors. Regardless of who ultimately develops the solution, it will be a great benefit to the citizens of Syracuse while also shining the spotlight on just how useful Vite can actually be. I look forward to hearing more about what #insightvite has in the works and being a part of creating something cool!

Thanks for all you do Plasmo and the SnapSecure team! You are all a great asset to the Vite community. I wouldn’t have been able to set up my full node without your (Plasmo specifically) help. It’s much appreciated!

@Vanderkum That's a great point about how having a real stake (our actual Vite tokens) in the testnet inherently makes us more involved with testing the features and active with reporting our constructive criticism. I hadn't really thought about it until I read your post but the team made a wise decision by doing so.

    • RE: My Vite Testnet Experience (from an SBP perspective)

Thanks for the post, it's cool to hear about the perspective of a snapshot block producer and also great to read that the Vite team has always been there to help with your node and the reward automation process. I think it's awesome that your team is the first private SBP to be rewarding voters!

    • Node syncing bug

My v1.1.1 stopped working so I downloaded v1.1.2 and launched the node but it was permanently stuck on the last block I had finished using v1.1.1 and would not sync properly. Plasmo helped me figure out how to delete the proper file to get rid of the backlog and re-install v1.1.2 but I’m continuously experiencing a similar problem: upon launching the node, all 3 lines will say “success!” and the node will begin syncing but then it gets stuck on a random early block pretty quickly and never moves from there, even after 7 hours of waiting. Do I have to wait for v1.1.3 to hopefully fix this issue or are there any other steps I can take to get my node running properly again?
